Arne Slot gives four-word response on Trent Alexander-Arnold as Liverpool waits for decision

Arne Slot wasn’t about to give anything away on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future as the end of the season draws near.

With the Premier League title now wrapped up, Liverpool is effectively embarking on a month-long victory parade now, starting with a trip to Chelsea on Sunday. But while the celebrations after being crowned champions will no doubt continue, there is still one crucial matter that is yet to be resolved.

Alexander-Arnold is yet to confirm a decision on his future, and with his contract expiring at the end of next month, time is running out if Liverpool is to tie down its vice-captain. A move to Real Madrid still looks to be the most likely outcome, although Reds fans may have had their hopes raised in the immediate aftermath of the title celebrations.

The 26-year-old was seen having a lengthy conversation with Liverpool owner John Henry on the pitch following the win over Tottenham, with suggestions that his future may have been discussed.

Not only that, but some of his teammates have been addressing his ongoing contract saga, while Linda Pizzuti – Henry’s wife – posted a cryptic message involving Alexander-Arnold to further raise hopes among supporters.

With time running out though, there is still no clear indication yet of what the academy graduate will be doing – although his boss is looking forward to the questions on his future coming to an end, one way or another.

“Four weeks to go!” Slot responded when asked for an update on Alexander-Arnold’s future at his pre-match press conference on Friday.

“If there’s any news on that, I wouldn’t say you will be the first one to know, but the people in front of me will probably hear it all together.

“As long as there’s no news from us, this is not the place to talk about his situation.”

Alexander-Arnold has maintained his silence throughout much of the season, giving nothing away on his future on the rare occasions he has chosen to speak out.

“Look, obviously, like I’ve said all season, I am not going to speak on my situation, I am not going to go into details but these days like today are always special,” Alexander-Arnold said following the recent win over Leicester, in which he scored the winner.

“Scoring goals, winning games, being close to winning titles and being in title races, they are special moments that will live for me forever. I am glad to be a part of them,”
