Bayern Munich was moments away from celebrating in Leipzig.

On a rainy day in Leipzig, Bayern Munich’s furious comeback from a 2-0 halftime deficit was ready to be capped off with a title celebration. Unfortunately, a string of bad luck led to Yussuf Poulsen chipping Jonas Urbig in the dying breaths of the game, resulting in a 3-3 draw.

To concede the title to Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern would need to lose both of its final matches to Borussia Mönchengladbach and Hoffenheim. Leverkusen would also be required to win all three of its remaining matches and miraculously overcome a 30-point goal differential advantage currently held by Bayern.

Despite the result, should Bayern have celebrated the title in Leipzig?

“This is why we all play football,” said Konrad Laimer (via @iMiaSanMia). “The Bundesliga is the most honest title; you win it over the long haul. We very much deserve to be at the top, and I’m really looking forward to making it official. Sooner or later, we’ll be German champions this year. We created a lot of chances today in the second half.”

In January, Bayern defeated Gladbach 1-0 on the road. Hopefully, Bayern can produce a similar result next weekend and celebrate the title with their home fans.
