Liverpool might be able to experiment with a few fringe players before the summer arrives, with Arne Slot having hinted he will do that. And then some big transfer decisions will have to be made.
Though Liverpool has won the Premier League title with four games to spare, there is an argument for making quite a lot of changes to the Reds’ roster in the next transfer window. Sporting director Richard Hughes could be a busy man having only signed Federico Chiesa in his first summer in charge.
Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today. Two players playing for major teams at the moment are supposedly on the agenda ahead of what could be a big period.
Rodrygo (Real Madrid)
With Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior among the many options that Real Madrid has in attacking areas, Brazilian superstar Rodrygo is said to be considering his future at the Bernabeu. Liverpool is among the clubs watching on.
According to GiveMeSport, the Reds are a “serious” option for Rodrygo if he decides to leave in search of a more prominent role. While he previously was certain to stay with Los Blancos, that stance has supposedly softened ahead of the summer.
The first priority for Liverpool in the next window should be a number nine to upgrade on Darwin Nunez. But while Rodrygo generally plays wide, if there is a chance to bring him in, that would obviously have an appeal too.
Liverpool.com says: Rodrygo has never wanted to leave Real Madrid before but if he does, there are not many clubs that he could join given how much he would cost and the level he would want to play at. Liverpool is very much one of that small number, however, and it is not hard to believe that most players would be open to an Anfield switch.
Andrea Cambiaso (Juventus)
With Trent Alexander-Arnold likely to move on and join Real Madrid in the summer when his contract expires (or even before if he is to play in the new Club World Cup), a replacement will be required. Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso is said to be one option.
Manchester City looked at the 25-year-old, who would cost around $100 million (£75 million), in the January window but couldn’t do a deal. Now, Football Insider claims that Liverpool has entered the race for his signature, with Pep Guardiola’s men still sniffing around. Juventus doesn’t want to lose the player but wouldn’t be in a position to reject a mega offer.
Liverpool.com says: Cambiaso looks like a very talented player and he would clearly be a useful option for the Reds. Spending that much on an Alexander-Arnold successor when Conor Bradley is already at the club, though, seems pretty unlikely.
