‘Probably’: Simone Inzaghi responds when asked if he wants to face Arsenal or PSG in CL final

3 Min Read

Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan side await either Paris Saint-Germain or Arsenal in this month’s Champions League final.

Inter Milan beat Barcelona by one-goal over two dramatic games of football, a Champions League semi-final which will live long in the memory.

Of course, Arsenal will be attempting to create fond memories of their own in Paris on Wednesday evening.

Mikel Arteta’s side have traveled to France with the task of overturning their 1-0 first leg defeat in north London.

Thomas Partey will return for Arsenal after being suspended last Tuesday and the 31-year-old does have a lot of expectation riding on his shoulders in terms of making the difference in France.

Arsenal haven’t reached a Champions League final since 2006, and Arteta keeps making the point that his side still are only one win away from doing so.

That being said, Inzaghi was pressed on which team out of PSG or Arsenal he’d rather face in the aftermath of Inter’s win over Barcelona.

Arsenal will learn their fate in Paris on Wednesday evening, but in truth, Inzaghi didn’t seem too concerned about which of two sides his team will face.

Responding to the question, Inzaghi said: “They are two great teams with two great coaches, with players that we know.

“The Champions League final is going to be a great final, whether Arsenal or Paris Saint-Germain.

“But probably Bayern Munich and Barcelona were the two best teams in Europe [this season].

“We need to be proud of what we have done. This was an extremely difficult match against an opponent that had an incredibly high level.”

Declan Rice can make the difference in Paris

Of course, it is worth remembering that Inter beat Arsenal 1-0 in the league phase of the competition this season.

Hakan Calhanoglu scored a penalty in Inter’s win at San Siro — which did prove to be a cagey affair.

Although, it’s worth noting that Declan Rice missed the tie owing to an injury concern, a player who’s arguably been Arteta’s most important performer of late.

And if Arsenal are going to book another match against Inter then Rice will need to lead the way playing against PSG as a number eight.

A crucial night for the Gunners, who will also look towards the likes of Bukayo Saka, William Saliba and Myles Lewis-Skelly in France, a trio who have been emulating Rice’s levels.
