Chelsea transfer news: Arsenal ‘preparing offer’ for Spain Under-21 international

Arsenal are reportedly planning on joining the race for Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera.

During the second half of this season’s La Liga, Mosquera has emerged as a star player for Valencia with Carlos Corberan working wonders at the Mestalla since his arrival in December.

The 20-year-old is up to 33 starts in Spain’s top flight for 2024-25, while he has racked up a total of 86 appearances for Los Che in all competitions.

However, Mosquera now has just over a year remaining on his contract, creating a scenario where bigger and European-football-participating clubs are highly likely to make their moves.

According to Cadena Ser, Arsenal are prepared to go all out to win the race for the Spain Under-21 international’s signature.

Arsenal winning Mosquera race?

The report alleges that the Gunners are willing to meet each of the requirements set by the player and his representatives to edge out the competition.

As well as wanting to join a Champions League club, Mosquera is also eager to ensure that Valencia benefit financially from his eventual sale.

An asking price in the region of €20m (£17.02m) has previously been suggested, seemingly leaving Arsenal needing to decide whether to meet that valuation.

Atletico Madrid and Villarreal are also said to be monitoring the situation, while Chelsea were credited as admirers earlier this week.

What is Mosquera’s best option?

With his career on an upward trajectory, Mosquera – a centre-back also capable of playing on the right – will want to ensure that he continues to earn regular football.

That may be a struggle at Arsenal, with Mosquera potentially only being viewed as fourth choice at centre-back and third choice at right-back providing that every key player remains in Mikel Arteta‘s squad.

Chelsea are also not short of right-backs and central defenders, although Mosquera may potentially be viewed as competition for Wesley Fofana and a straight replacement for Trevoh Chalobah.

Making more appearances at Atletico and Villarreal is realistic, yet moving there may be dependent on either club being prepared to meet Valencia’s demands.
