Here’s to the greatest German footballer of all time.

Over the last 25 years, Thomas Müller’s number 25 has become synonymous with Bayern Munich. Having crossed 500 Bundesliga appearances, Müller is not only special because of his loyalty, but because of his contributions — he’s a phenomenal player with game intelligence and positional awareness second to none in the history of football.

The most decorated German player gave his farewell speech dahoam at the Allianz Arena following Bayern’s 2-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Per @iMiaSanMia, the club legend thanked everyone involved for making his time at the club special.

“We all knew this moment would come,” said Müller. “I’m happy we brought the title back to Munich.”

“The appreciation you gave me is unique. 25 years at this club, the stadium has always been full – the development of the club has been impressive, I’m happy to have helped and contributed. We reached the top of European football,” said Müller, speaking on Bayern’s ability in remaining competitive and successful over the years.

“I’ll miss the feeling of scoring goals in front of a full stadium, but especially the relationships with my teammates and coaches,” he added, reminiscing on his beautiful years at the club and several close relationships he had formed, like the ones with former teammates Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery, and Robert Lewandowski and current teammates like Harry Kane.

“The club can look positively into the future. We have young hungry players who give their hearts for FC Bayern, I’m not sad. I’m looking forward to what’s coming, even though it certainly won’t be better than what I had here. Now let’s celebrate,” he declared emphatically.

The feelings are mutual — Müller’s further years will probably never beat his time in Bavaria and the club will never be the same. Of course, it is only natural that the club moves on from its players regardless of how important they are but few embody a club like Thomas Müller.
