‘League One player’: Carlton Cole says Liverpool have a ‘world class’ player who looks awful sometimes

3 Min Read

Liverpool have been the best team in the Premier League this season by some distance.

Indeed, the Reds have won the league at a canter, and many of the Merseyside club’s players have been brilliant this term.

Virgil van Dijk has been imperious as ever, Ryan Gravenberch has improved massively, while Mohamed Salah has been in Ballon d’Or winning form.

Salah has been unbelievable this term, but speaking on The Dressing Room Podcast, Carlton Cole has shared a slightly different verdict on the winger.

Indeed, Cole has claimed that Mohamed Salah actually looks like a League One Player at times, claiming that his first touch really isn’t great.

Carlton Cole compares Mohamed Salah to a League One player

Cole shared his verdict on Salah, claiming that while he’s a world-class player, he looks League One standard at times.

Salah has been criticised for his ball control in the past, and Cole believes that, at times, he looks like a lower-league player.

“Sometimes, he confuses me, Salah,” Cole said.

Salah, sometimes, he plays, he’s world class, right? But then sometimes, I’m looking at him like a League One player. Some of these touches and what he tries to do, I’m thinking, what’s that? It’s weird.”

Erling Haaland has also been compared to a lower-league player

Cole’s comments here about Salah are, undoubtedly, ridiculous.

This is the best player in the Premier League being compared to a League One player, it’s preposterous.

However, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard something like this.

Last year, Roy Keane compared Erling Haaland to a League Two player, saying:

“He’s almost like a League Two player. That is the way I look at him. His general play has to improve.

“It will do, over the next few years. Being this brilliant striker is fantastic but he has to improve his all-round game.”

For one reason or another, these pundits are making extreme claims to discredit some of the best players in world football at the moment.

If Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah are League Two and League One players respectively, perhaps Lionel Messi is the only player on the planet good enough to play in the Premier League.
