The dream team of Sandro Wagner and Julian Nagelsmann has come to an end.
Former Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann has done some great things far with the German national team. Nagelsmann alongside Sandro Wagner, have seemingly steered Germany back in the right direction after what most would consider a successful tournament for the host nation, after narrowly losing (and controversially so) to the eventual winner. Unfortunately, that partnership is coming to an end after the Nations League Final Four.

Sandro Wagner has officially decided we will not be staying with the DFB for the FIFA World Cup in 2026. The reason for that departure is his pursuit of a head coach position elsewhere. With many years of coaching ahead of him, this move might be premature, but Julian Nagelsmann was understanding.
“I personally understand Sandro’s desire to become head coach and respect his decision”, stated Nagelsmann, as reported by @iMiaSanMia. “We had a good and always transparent exchange about this. Sandro has enriched our team with his expertise and as a person. I wish Sandro all the best for his next career steps”
Hopefully, Wagner can end on a high if Germany can win at home in June, and the search for the next assistant coach will begin. Hansi Flick was the assistant coach for the national team for years and it seemingly did him wonders, so it is certainly an attractive role.
