‘I’m not sure’: Carlton Cole reacts after hearing who Arsenal are signing now

3 Min Read

Arsenal have a big transfer window ahead of them and they’re not wasting any time in getting down to business.

Indeed, the Gunners have already identified a number of key transfer targets.

Nico Williams is a concrete target for Arsenal, while Alexander Isak is on Arsenal’s radar too.

On top of this, Arsenal apparently already have one deal done heading into the summer.

Martin Zubimendi is set to sign for Arsenal, and speaking on The Dressing Room Podcast, Carlton Cole has shared his reaction to this signing.

The pundit says he’s actually not sure about this move, claiming that Arsenal should have other priorities at the moment.

Carlton Cole reacts to Martin Zubimendi joining Arsenal

Cole shared his verdict on Zubimendi heading to the Emirates.

The pundit says he’s really not sure about this deal, claiming that the Gunners should be looking at other players.

“Now, they’re going to have to have a big summer to go out and buy the right players. I know they’ve just brought in Zubimendi,” Cole said.

“Whether that’s what was needed right now, I’m not sure. I think you need a player that’s going to complement Saka, yeah, as a striker. And that left side needs to be built up as well.”

Arsenal’s midfield depth analysed

Cole says he’s not sure about Zubimendi signing for Arsenal, and it’s easy to understand why.

Indeed, while Zubimendi is a talented player, the Gunners’ midfield situation does seem to be in a good spot.

When you look at the depth chart in terms of Arsenal’s midfield options, they’re in a good position.

Arsenal’s midfield options next season
Declan Rice
Thomas Partey
Mikel Merino
Myles Lewis-Skelly

Declan Rice is a world-class player, while Thomas Partey has been solid this season too.

On top of that, Myles Lewis-Skelly has been tipped to move back into midfield, and while Mikel Merino has been fantastic up front, he’s more comfortable in a deeper role too.

Of course, Jorginho is leaving, but he’s barely featured this season in any case.

Zubimendi may well be an upgrade in this area, but, as Cole suggests, there are more pressing areas of the Arsenal squad that need addressing before the Gunners strengthen in other areas.
